I had a very similar experience with TM in my 20’s. The free introductory session was at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa.
I got wary when they started talking about god and I bailed when at the very end they revealed the exorbitant cost.
Master Class has an excellent mindfulness course by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
I also liked Seinfeld’s convocation talk. He seems unusually well adjusted for a comedian, and firmly grounded.
Kabat-Zinn is soft spoken and mild mannered. I was at a retreat with him when someone asked him for a mantra. He spent several minutes building up to what he described as a fantastic mantra that he uses himself and often recommends when people are having difficulty meditating.
Kabat-Zinn was great. I am happy to pay for the masterclass if you want to take it. https://www.masterclass.com/classes/jon-kabat-zinn-teaches-mindfulness-and-meditation?utm_source=Organic-Social-PR&utm_term=Aq-Prospecting&utm_content=VanityLink_Instructor&utm_campaign=JKZ
Well worth it. Also, he has an app. https://jonkabat-zinn.com/meditation-app/

Then he finally revealed the mantra:
“Just fucking do it”.
